Government Women's Network
The Government Women’s Network (GWN) is an over-arching network for women's networks. We aim to inspire and empower public sector women to achieve their potential. We connect women’s networks across New Zealand, and share information, resources, and events information.
Who are we?
Launched in 2016, the Government Women’s Network (GWN) is an over-arching network for women’s networks across government and the wider public sector.
Chief executives from core government departments support GWN with funding.
GWN has a governance group of seven senior women and employs a programme director, engagement and secretariat advisor (Wellington) and part-time coordinators in Auckland and Christchurch.
Our goals
GWN’s goals are to connect women and networks throughout New Zealand to achieve more together and enable government women to achieve their potential.
We aim to understand and work on barriers that get in the way of women achieving their potential.
We support other emerging employee-led diversity networks to get established and grow.
We acknowledge that each women’s network self-determines its leadership structure, areas of interest and focus, and are employee- and volunteer-led. In some situations, women’s networks may receive some direct funding from their organisation or agency.

Who are we?
The Auckland Government Women’s Network (AGWN) began in March 2016.
We are a network of women from a wide range of agencies from the Auckland region. All interested women and supporters from any government organisation or agency in the wider Auckland area, eg, Auckland Council, Auckland Transport, and DHBs are welcome to join us.
In Auckland, there are over 120 separate government office sites and over 100,000 public servants.
We have over 500 women on our AGWN mailing list.
We have a working group that continues to grow and develop the network.
You can be a member of both your own agency’s women’s network and AGWN.
Our goals
AGWN supports women to achieve their potential. We help to create connections between people and agencies across sectors in the wider Auckland area. We enable members to share information, resources, and learnings, and run professional development-related events.
We aim to hold events in a range of locations around the Auckland region, beyond the CBD, to give maximum opportunities for women and their supporters to participate.
Our focus is on facilitating networking, leadership development, and providing resources. Find out more in the 2018 AGWN Plan.

Who are we?
The South Island Government Women’s Network (SGWN) began in May 2018 in Christchurch and brings together over 170 public servants from about 16 agencies.
We are a network of women and supporters from a range of agencies from across Christchurch and parts of the South Island. We welcome all women to join us. The sponsor for SGWN is Christine Stevenson, Acting Comptroller New Zealand Customs Service.
Our goals
SGWN supports women to achieve their potential and helps to create connections between people and agencies across sectors. We enable members to share information, resources, learnings, and promote events.
Our Committee is based in Christchurch and we connect with other government women’s networks in the South Island. We encourage government women in other parts of the South Island to connect with each other and their supporters and to hold local events.
SGWN’s goals are to facilitate professional networking opportunities, leadership development, and to support women with events and resources.
