About Te Tauaki Puāwai - MPI Māori Network
Te Tauaki Puāwai supports and enhances the implementation of tikanga Māori within MPI. It is made up of MPI staff from a wide range of cultural backgrounds who are committed to providing leadership, advice and support to the wider Ministry on both tikanga Māori (Māori customs and law) and tahā Māori (Māori perspective or dimension of a subject).
Te Tauaki Puāwai also provides advice to the Director-General, SLT, and managers on MPI’s progress towards making the Ministry a workplace that values the wider application of Māori perspectives and contribution of their staff in into MPI’s work streams and projects.
Strategic goals
Te Tauaki Puāwai’s strategic goals are to:
- Support delivery of MPI’s strategy, by helping staff gain a better understanding of Māori values to protect and enhance the well-being and potential benefits from the use of New Zealand’s natural resources
- Increase the use of Te Reo Māori within MPI
- Promote the benefits of Te Tauaki Puāwai membership
- Promote understanding of tikanga Māori
- Provide advice, guidance and leadership on tikanga and kawa for events that honour Māori culture and values.
MPI’s employee network groups are voluntary groups of staff formed with common interests and objectives to enhance the workplace experience of our diverse communities, and to raise the profile of these communities. Effective workplace networks increase inclusion, engagement and collaboration. They also demonstrate MPI’s commitment to building a supportive and inclusive workplace culture – we want everyone at MPI to be able to bring their whole selves to work, and we want to support people to be the best version of themselves.
